Treat for Two

Auriga Spa at Capella Singapore

Situated on luxurious Sentosa Island, Auriga Spa’s leafy surroundings is a cool, remote respite from the concrete jungle of the main island. Earthy wooden frames grounded on rough-hewn and smooth stone motifs adorn the curvaceous spa building.

Three superb couple treatments are available. The aptly titled (and most popular) P.S. I Love You offers head-to-toe treatments sprinkled with rose-centred elements. Our unwinding starts with a herbal steam in a mood-calming marine blue mosaic room. In the couple spa suite, the journey begins with a rose-scented foot scrub, subtly prompting our olfactory senses. The rose and jasmine blended massage oil swept us under its sweet, delicate sway during the customised massage. Just as relaxing is facial cleansing with shea butter, carrot and rose, followed with a honey and jasmine face mask before neem hair serum is applied.

We are left to enjoy some time alone during a candlelit Malay bathing ritual, mandi safar. Aimed to detoxify, the warm bath is infused with kaffir lime and Epsom salt, and combines with the obligatory rose petals make for a pleasurable time together. The rest of the evening is spent sipping cocktails at Bob’s Bar overlooking a bay.

Another couples’ option is Senja Sunyi Massage, offering Javanese medium pressure massage with warm moonstones, which includes a facial treatment followed by afternoon tea. Couples with more time should go for the four-hour Honey Moon offering the sheer pleasures of a body scrub, hair-scalp treatment, full-body massage, facial and bathing ritual, rounded off with cocktails and tapas.

Willow Stream Spa at Fairmont Singapore

The centrally located city spa is interconnected with a main subway interchange station offering convenient access rain or shine. Unlike many urban spas, the ambience is bright and inviting with views of the skyline. Its couple treatments, Couple Bliss and Dream Two-Gather, are conducted in couple suites imbued with natural light, overlooking a small rooftop garden.

Massage-focused Couple Bliss sets the mood, soothing and restorative all at the same time. Combining Balinese long strokes and stronger Swedish tension-relieving techniques, the expert firm glides of the therapist send us into stupor, while enveloped by peppermint and lavender aromatherapy oil – bliss indeed.

To look and feel good, you can both Dream Two-Gather for two hours of face and body therapy with Australian skincare brand Gaylia Kristensen’s Signature Ritual followed by a thermal mineral bath in the couple’s suite. Or opt for à la carte – the Pearls and Caviar Ultimate Anti-Ageing Rejuvenation offers a pearl body polish, massage with ginger and bamboo, plus a caviar facial.

The 50,000sqft, two-storey spa boasts 23 treatment rooms, a fitness centre with cardio theatre, private suites with Jacuzzi, sauna and steam rooms, two free-form swimming pools and six tennis courts.

Banyan Tree Spa at Marina Bay Sands

Towering 55 floors above the swanky Marina Bay Sands, you are literally above the fray of the dense city. Soak in panoramic views from this sky-high sanctuary amid its tranquil rainforest-themed setting, decorated with the sinewy aerial roots of the banyan tree. Any of its à la carte treatments can be packaged for couples, a boon as you can select a different treatment from your partner.

Spa veterans should try its Master Therapist experience. With a solid reputation since its pioneering days in the 1990s, the brand’s therapists are excellent. The master therapist who worked on me sorted out my knots with impeccable dexterity, using a combination of Thai traditional and oil massage bolstered with hot stone and herbal compress. Hot stones are said to help relieve deep-tissue tension, while herbal compress induces relaxation and improves circulation. The menu features treatments specifically tailored for men and women, according to desired duration and style preferences.

So SPA at Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa

This resort spa boasts treatments to suit any schedule. The recently launched Adam & Eve package, targeted at time-starved couples, delivers an intense 30-minute back, shoulder and neck massage followed by a three-course set dinner. The menu includes grilled tiger prawns and a choice of arborio risotto or pan-fried barramundi with caviar and American cheese cake. This quick treat comes with a bottle of Prosecco, and is available the first Friday of each month.

For something long and languorous, Island Escapade is a full-on five-hour-long seven-course package top-to-toe spa journey. You and your partner can most certainly have it all.
